It all started in 2001, when i made my first trip to Denmark and Sweden for the Dana and Gothia cup respectively.

And since then it has been an adventure that i would not want to end. I have had the opportunity to see different parts of the world and meet different people from all the corners of the world. I am proud to say that i have had even the chance to experience things that most people can only wish for, from playing for the national team to training with one of the biggest teams in the world, Manchester United. It was a great experience for me and that`s what motivates me, because i had that chance to see so great players at great clubs. It´s a lifetime experience to have been at United and i hope that through hard work, descipline and commitment, one day i will be as great as them.

It was during the Gothia Cup, when Örgryte IS made contact with my Zambian team (Chiparamba Great Eagles). And the interest was good enough so i had to stay for attachment in Sweden for about 3 months. And that was because of my trip to Manchester which had brought a lot of interests from many teams. So Örgryte had to do something and that is how i finally signed for them in 2004.

I can describe my time in Sweden as both good and tough, because in a space of four years i experienced both happiness and sadness. I got the chance to play for a good team in Sweden, but it was just sad that i experienced the bad time, when the club went through by getting relegated. And during the same period i lost my lovely mother. All this was kind of too much in a way and it made me lose my position in the team. So i thought that in my age i needed to play regularly in order to improve.

I ended up in Oulu and that is something I don’t regret doing because i have had a chance to play regularly, week in and week out. That is just exactly what i needed and not forgetting this opportunity to play for one of the country’s best coaches, Juha Malinen!

I have enjoyed my time in Oulu, because it has made me find the peace i needed in my life. I feel so great to run to the turf of Castren each week and having my brother on the same side. Each and every morning i look forward to go and train, because it feels like i am always going to meet my family. It is all because of the great bond we have with in the team, from the coaching staff all the way to the players.

But one of the only things that worries me is the social life of the people here. With all due respect to the finnish people and there country, I don’t think they are that social. But i don’t blame them for that, maybe it all goes a long way back through the history books. Anyway, what i am trying to say is that i have had problems to make friends here more than i had in Sweden. But i still can say that i still have many finnish friends.

I can simply say that i am enjoying the life in Oulu at the moment and I am enjoying playing for AC Oulu. I think that things are changing in a positive way since the first time i came here. There is a promising project going on and i think in a few years time the people of Oulu will enjoy football more than they do now. It’s just a bit sad that at the moment, icehockey is taking centre stage. But i am positive that in a few years time football will be number 1 in Oulu.

It feels so great to be part of the current AC Oulu team right now because the atmosphere inside and around the team is just great. The team spirit it’s just far much better than last year, which might mean a great deal for us this year. It’s been a good season so far but we are not getting carried away by our current position in the league because there is always room for improvement and it feels like the team gets better each and every week. I am pretty sure that if we keep improving, we will definately achieve our main goal by the end of the season.

But first things first. There is a couple of interesting games coming up. To play twice against PS Kemi in a space of seven days is just something special for both the players and the fans. As a player, it is games like these that you want to be part of, especially because of the rivalry between the teams which dates back a long way in history. Then we have of course JIPPO and KPV who both have proved to be tough oppenents. But i still strongly believe that we have the team to defeat both teams. But these are just a few of the many battles to come. We will take each game as it comes and we will work hard to achieve our goal until the last game of the season.

Finally i would like to say that i am happy to be part of the AC Oulu team at the moment and i would like to thank each and every person giving us their support and i hope that we can pay them back with a eason to remember for many years to come.

Dominic Yoben blogi: Nautin elämästäni Oulussa

Kaikki alkoi vuonna 2001, kun tein ensimmäiset matkani Tanskaan sekä Ruotsiin Dana ja Gothia Cupeihin. Siitä lähtien olen elänyt seikkailua, jonka en haluaisi koskaan päättyvän.

Olen saanut mahdollisuuden nähdä maailman eri paikkoja sekä ihmisiä joka puolilta maailmaa. Olen ylpeä voidessani sanoa, että olen saanut sellaisia kokemuksia, joista useimmat ihmiset voivat vain haaveilla. Olen saanut pelata maajoukkueessa sekä harjoitella maailman suurimpiin seuroihin kuuluvan Manchester Unitedin kanssa. Se oli minulle erinomainen kokemus, joka motivoi eteenpäin, sillä sain nähdä loistavia pelaajia isossa seurassa. Toivon, että kovalla työllä ja vahvalla sitoutumisella minusta tulee eräänä päivänä yhtä hyvä pelaaja kuin Unitedin pelaajista.

Gothia Cupin aikana ruotsalaisseura Örgryte otti yhteyttä silloiseen Sambian seuraani Chiparamba Great Eaglesiin. Kiinnostus oli lopulta sen verran vahvaa, että liityin Örgryten joukkueeseen koemielessä kolmen kuukauden ajaksi. Muutoinkin monet seurat osoittivat kiinnostustaan minuun Manchesterin vierailuni jälkeen ja lopulta Örgryten oli tarjottava sopimusta, jonka sitten tein heidän kanssaan vuonna 2004.

Aikaani Ruotsissa voin kuvailla sekä hienoksi että raskaaksi, koska neljän vuoden aikana koin iloisia, mutta myös surullisia hetkiä. Sain mahdollisuuden pelata hyvässä joukkueessa, mutta valitettavasti joukkue kuitenkin putosi pääsarjasta. Ja samaan aikaan menetin rakkaan äitini. Kaikki tämä oli minulle hieman liian raskasta ja niinpä menetin asemani joukkueessa. Silloin ajattelin, että minun iässäni tärkeintä on päästä pelaamaan säännöllisesti, jotta voin kehittyä.

Niinpä päädyin Ouluun, ja se on asia, jota minun ei ole tarvinnut katua. AC Oulussa olen päässyt pelaamaan vakituisesti viikosta toiseen ja se on juuri se asia, jota tarvitsenkin. Lisäksi saan pelata Suomen parhaimpiin valmentajiin kuuluvan Juha Malisen alaisuudessa!

Olen todella nauttinut ajastani Oulussa, koska täällä olen löytänyt kaipaamani rauhan elämään. Tunnen oloni upeaksi juostessani Castrenin nurmella ja pelatessani samassa joukkueessa veljeni kanssa. Joka aamu menen innoissani harjoittelemaan, koska minusta tuntuu kuin menisin tapaamaan perhettäni. Tunne on sen ansiota, että joukkuehenkemme ja yhteenkuuluvuuden tunteemme on todella vahva valmennusryhmästä pelaajiin saakka.

Ainoita asioita, joka täällä hieman huolettaa, on sosiaalinen elämä. Kaikella kunnioituksella suomalaisia ja heidän maata kohtaan, minun on pakko sanoa, etteivät he ole hirveän sosiaalisia. En syytä heitä, mutta valitettavasti minun on ollut vaikeampaa saada uusia ystäviä Suomessa kuin Ruotsissa oli. Kaikesta huolimatta minulla kuitenkin on myös suomalaisia ystäviä.

Yksinkertaisesti voin sanoa, että nautin todella olostani Oulussa ja pelaamisesta AC Oulussa. Luulen, että kaikki asiat ovat menossa parempaan suuntaan kuin Ouluun tullessani. Joukkuehenkemme on huomattavasti parempi kuin viime kaudella ja siitä voi olla vielä paljon apua. Meillä on lupaava projekti käynnissä ja uskon, että muutaman vuoden kuluttua oululaiset ihmiset saavat nauttia jalkapallosta vielä enemmän kuin tällä hetkellä. Nyt tilanne tuntuu valitettavasti olevan vielä se, että jääkiekolla on kaupungissa keskeisin asema, mutta uskon, että muutaman vuoden kuluttua jalkapallo on Oulun ykkösasia.

Käynnissä oleva kausi on sujunut tähän mennessä hyvin, mutta tämän hetkisestä sarjasijoituksesta huolimatta meillä on paljon kehitettävää pelissämme ja olemmekin pystyneet parantamaan koko ajan. Olen aika varma, että jos pystymme edelleen kehittämään peliämme, saavutamme kauden päätteeksi tavoitteemme.

Seuraavaksi meillä on edessämme muutama hyvin mielenkiintoinen ottelu. Pelaamme lyhyen ajan sisällä kaksi kertaa peräkkäin Kemiä vastaan, ja se on hyvin erityistä sekä pelaajille että faneille. Pelaajan kannalta ajateltuna juuri tällaiset ottelut ovat niitä, joissa todella haluaa olla mukana. Oululla ja Kemillä on pitkä yhteinen historia, joka tekee otteluista erityisiä. Kemi-otteluiden jälkeen kohtaamme Jipon ja KPV:n, jotka molemmat ovat todistaneet olevansa kovia vastustajia. Uskon kuitenkin vahvasti, että meillä on joukkue, jolla pystymme voittamaan kaikki nämä pelit. Joka tapauksessa nämä ovat vain muutamia pelejä niistä useista kamppailuista, joita on edessä. Pelaamme yhden ottelun kerrallaan ja teemme kovasti töitä kauden loppuun saakka, jotta saavutamme tavoitteemme.

Lopuksi haluan vielä sanoa, että olen onnellinen saadessani olla osa AC Oulun joukkuetta ja haluan kiittää ihan jokaista ihmistä sekä kannattajaa, joka on tukenamme. Toivon, että voimme antaa heille kiitokseksi kauden, jota voidaan muistella vielä usean vuoden päästäkin.
